In Response to Before and After videos of PPI

I wanted to rebuttal the lies PPI is spewing on their latest installment of videos on their website. With regards to the “holding pens” being destroyed I personally began the demolition of these cages. This is where 75+ guinea pigs, 2 bobcats and 3 servals were forced to live for up to 6-7 years. These cages measured approx. 10 feet by 10 feet by 7 feet tall. Stephan claims the enclosures we moved the servals to are too small. Well they are at least 5 times bigger than the “holding pens” so Stephen which would you say is the better enclosure and why would you force any animals to live in those tiny cage?

Let’s take some time to talk about PPI’s before and after videos. First let’s remember that PPI let these cages sit for days after the heavy rain came through the area. You see in the before pictures lots of blankets and toys. Hay for soft bedding. While PPI tried to make it look like we hadn’t cleaned the cages in weeks that simply isn’t true. We cleaned cages and gave fresh enrichment everyday. Let’s look at the “after” pictures. Boring steel and concrete with a few 2x6 planks for perching. How does that enrich an animal’s life? Yet again there is documentation provided by PPI and FoA now showing how they don’t “believe in enrichment”. As I have said over and over we had experts visit the grounds the day we left (and if the AG had done what he said he would in court and visited the grounds prior to the turn over he would have seen it as well…sound fishy). Are we really expected to take Tello and Feral’s word over 100’s of experts? I think not. Again I challenge FoA and PPI to present anyone from any of the most respected organizations that are willing to support them.

The extent of the lies being told on the PPI/FOA website and various media is outrageous. I now understand the crooked ways they come about their funding. I assume they target individuals who are not personally involved. Anyone who could have seen it with their own eyes would have no doubts as to PPI/FOA's true character. I am glad this website is here for those seeking the truth.
The statements made about the serval cages are preposterous. There is an aerial map on PPI/FOA's website. It is hard to see if you don't know where to look but it shows the size difference of the old and new enclosures. I saw the old cage with my own eyes. That is no way for a serval to live. Just being labeled "holding pen" should say something. It turned out to be a serval enclosure for 6-7 YEARS!  We were eager to see them in their new enclosures that allowed them to hide, climb, and lay out in grass. There was even a kiddie pool we were eventually going to put fish in for some enrichment. All the staff that were there for that had smiles on their faces. How exciting! PPI/FOA should be happy for those servals. Their lives have been greatly improved! Another fact is that the enclosures we placed the servals in (the ones PPI claim are too small) are the same size enclosure they themselves placed 3 mountain lions in! We were working on doubling the size of the mountain lion's enclosure PPI had given them!
Continuing on with PPI/FOA's lies are the videos. They say we left the place in "shambles". I can only laugh at this comment! We cleaned enclosures continuously on a regular basis. We entered each enclosure, disinfected, scrubbed, enriched, handed out blankets and laid down hay. PPI's previous method was to spray out the cage with high pressured water from the outside. No disinfecting ... that should say enough. The monkey night boxes were not even opened up to clean the inside and it is not like the monkeys always used the restroom outside the night box. One can only imagine how much filth had accumulated. It is obviously easier to leave a barren cage so that when it rains you don't have wet toys, hay, blankets to clean all over again, but the receivership team loved seeing the joy it brought all the animals to have these things. We believe they are essential to their well being. It isn't going to stay picture perfect the animals play and tear things up and drag them around. ENRICHMENT!!! It gives them something to do. If it rained (which in their video you can see storm clouds) we were immediately right back to ensuring they had clean dry enclosures. We pushed ourselves and each other to give these animals the best living environment possible. Thank you PPI receivership team!!!
